Suarez´s Barca renewal already done, says Bartomeu

Luis Suarez has already agreed to a contract extension at Barcelona until 2022, president Josep Maria Bartomeu has said.

The Uruguay international stated last month that talks were progressing well on renewing his deal at Camp Nou.

And Barca are set to confirm the former Liverpool forward has agreed to fresh terms before the end of the year according to Bartomeu.

Suarez is going to renew his deal, he told Radio Vision, a Uruguayan station.

It is already done. There are only a few small details to sort. In the coming days, weeks, we will announce it.

Perhaps, why not? It is a great Christmas present. Not to Luis, who already knows he will continue here, but for football fans.

For them he is a very important character who is part of this…

Prediction: Inter Milan vs Real Madrid

Best Odds: 4/6

Bookmaker:

In what could be a mouth-watering affair on Wednesday night, Inter Milan will welcome Spanish giants Real Madrid to the San Siro when this year s Champions League gets underway.

Inter Milan

Starting with the hosts, after taking the lead twice away at Sampdoria over the weekend, there is no doubt that Inter Milan would have been disappointed to have eventually settled for a 2-2 draw. Missing out on the chance to extend on their 100% start to the new Serie A campaign and dropping their first points of the season, new boss Simone Inzaghi has still been filled with praise for his side s recent performances. Making the decision to bring in the former Lazio coach to replace Antonio Conte over the summer, the defending Italian champions have …

Pulisic ready to ´prove himself´ under new Chelsea boss Potter

Christian Pulisic is relishing a fresh start at Chelsea and accepts he must now prove himself to new head coach Graham Potter.

The 24-year-old managed just one start across Chelsea s opening seven matches of the season prior to Thomas Tuchel being sacked and replaced by Potter.

Pulisic was a second-half substitute in Potter s only game so far – a 1-1 Champions League draw with Salzburg – before heading off for international duty with the United States.

After a frustrating time of things under Tuchel, Pulisic considers the arrival of former Brighton and Hove Albion boss Potter as a chance to kick-start his Stamford Bridge career.

I m feeling good going back, honestly, he told reporters following USA s 0-0 draw against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Mertesacker hails Wenger approach

Arsenal s Per Mertesacker feels manager Arsene Wenger has made the squad more confident since their 8-2 defeat to Manchester United in 2011.

The German defender was signed soon after the comprehensive defeat at Old Trafford and suffered a mixed opening to his time at the club.

However, the former Werder Bremen man was impressed by Wenger s reaction to the defeat and claimed his handling of the situation increased confidence among his players.

We made a lot of mistakes as a team (against United) every player, he told talkSPORT after the sides played out a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

But we learned quickly, and the manager is the key to that because he trusts the players.

When we made mistakes – as I did a lot of times – he always said…

Chile international Contreras joins Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory have revealed Chilean international Pablo Contreras as their marquee signing for the upcoming A-League season.

Contreras a central defender has been capped 67 times for his country and joins Victory after making 17 appearances for Greek club Olympiacos in the 2012-13 Super League campaign.

The now 35-year-old represented Chile at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and has also experienced Champions League football with both Olympiacos and PAOK Thessaloniki.

With Daniel Mullen returning to Chinese side Dalian Aerbin after a four-month loan spell with Victory, Postecoglou was ecstatic to add to his defensive options with Adrian Leijer and Nick Ansell the only recognised central defenders.

We are thrilled to welcome Pablo to Melbourne Victory and …

Hummels impressed by ´incredible´ Sanches

Renato Sanches gives Bayern Munich a new dimension according to defender Mats Hummels.

Bayern were held to a 1-1 draw by Augsburg on Tuesday, losing their 100 per cent Bundesliga record, but Portugal midfielder Sanches impressed once more.

The 21-year-old struggled after joining the German champions from Benfica in 2016 and spent a fruitless and injury-ruined loan spell with Swansea City last term.

But the youngster appears revitalised under new head coach Niko Kovac and produced another strong showing after scoring on his return to Benfica in the Champions League last week.

He has given himself outstanding chances with his irresistible start to the season, Hummels told reporters after a match in which Sanches and other Bayern players were guilty of miss…

Text from Manchester United board reassured Mourinho over sacking reports

Jose Mourinho said he received a text from the Manchester United board telling him to pay no attention to reports he was to be sacked regardless of the result in Saturday s clash with Newcastle United.

The Daily Mirror published a story on Friday claiming Mourinho was to be dismissed as United manager this weekend, a situation that sparked much debate.

Former United captain Gary Neville – now a television pundit – slammed the club for allegedly leaking the story to a journalist, suggesting something similar happened when Louis van Gaal lost his job in 2016.

Mourinho s side went on to win 3-2 at Old Trafford despite trailing 2-0 within 10 minutes, but the Portuguese insists the speculation surrounding his future had no impact because United s hierarchy had alr…

Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City: Jesus nets winner as Guardiola gets the better of Tuchel

Gabriel Jesus scored the only goal as Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge to move level on points with their Premier League title rivals.

City lost three times to Chelsea in the space of six weeks at the end of last season, including in the Champions League final, but Pep Guardiola finally got the better of Thomas Tuchel in Saturday s contest.

After dominating the first half without managing to test returning Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, the visitors opened the scoring eight minutes after the restart through a heavily deflected Jesus shot.

That sparked the game into life as City missed two big chances and Romelu Lukaku had a goal ruled out, though Jesus strike proved to be the difference as top-flight champions City inflicted a first defeat o…

Koeman dismisses claims Benfica clash decisive for Barcelona

Ronald Koeman insisted Barcelona s Champions League visit to Benfica could not be classed as decisive in the early stages of Group E.

Barca endured a tough start to the Champions League against Bayern Munich, failing to attempt a shot on target for the first time in the competition since Opta records began in 2003-04.

The Catalan club are looking to avoid losing their first two matches in a European campaign for only the second time in their history, having previously lost both legs of their UEFA Cup first-round tie with Porto way back in 1972-73.

However, Koeman was in confident mood ahead of the trip to Portugal after crushing Levante 3-0 on Sunday, while shunning claims that Wednesday s tie was a must-win.

Impossible, it is the second of six, it canno…

Fenerbahce have completed the signing of highly rated Senegalese forward Issiar Dia from AS Nancy Lorraine. Dia, 23, has reportedly costed the Turkish giants around 8 million euros, and has signed a four year contract with the Yellow Canaries.
